Our Story

NIO Group didn’t just pop up overnight—we’ve been built from the ground up by industry experts who know the fibre and utilities world inside out. NIO Training is part of the NIO Group of companies. Many will know NIO Comm as a leading expert in turnkey build solutions in the fibre world. The Groups journey started in 2008 with a simple goal: to be a leading full turnkey build partner and provide top-quality work.

NIO Training provides hands-on training that actually prepares people for real jobs in the field.

We saw a gap in the industry—training that was too generic, outdated, or just not practical enough. There was also a lack of good quality multi-lingual trainers that could provide the diverse industry’s workforce. So, we decided to do things differently. With a team of experienced professionals, we set out to create a training centre that delivers real skills, real knowledge, and real opportunities.

Over the years, we’ve trained countless individuals, helping them start or advance their careers in fibre optics, and power utilities. Our reputation has grown, and so has our training facility, expanding to keep up with the latest technology, industry standards, and the ever-changing demands of the sector.

Director and MD

Helen Lee

With 27 years in HR and Learning & Development, I’ve had the privilege of working across multiple industries, helping businesses grow and employees thrive. From recruitment and training to leadership development, my passion has always been about empowering people with the right skills to succeed.

Now, I’m bringing all that experience into the fibre and utilities sector with NIO Training.

My goal? To create a training centre that not only equips professionals with technical know-how but also helps companies build skilled, confident teams that drive success.

Technical Director

Keith Aggett

In addition to my role in NIO Training Ltd I am the HSEQ Manager in NIO Comm Ltd, working in the Fibre industry for the past 5 years.

I was born in Exeter, Devon where I lived until I joined the Armed Forces in 1978. During my 26 years in the Army, I achieved qualifications in Civil Engineering, NEBOSH, Course design, training assessor, and various additional training which provided me with the knowledge and experience needed when I left the Armed Forces.

Since leaving the Army I have been in HSEQ within the Power, gas, water and construction industry, achieving qualification in each discipline. My main areas of work include:

The Little Cheyne Court Wind Farm in Kent
5 years on the £134 million conversion form the Bankside Substation to the Tate Modern
The North London Gas Alliance
The Victoria water mains replacement
Solar farms in Devon, Cornwall, and Norfolk
Fibre network installation in Kent, Sussex, Surrey and East London

Whilst working on the above projects I achieved my internal and external Lead Auditors certificate and my Chartership in Project Manager in 2019. In addition to this I have over 30 years’ experience delivering training from specialist military engineering, health and safety, artisan employment, to project management.

I like to make the most of my spare time walking, hiking, cycling, home DIY, cooking, and actively in Freemasonry. Having two children we are always finding things to do to challenge each other from parachuting to Zip Wires in the UK.

Health and Safety Trainer, Assessor and Internal Quality Assessor (IQA).

Irina Melnic

I am a Health and Safety Trainer, Assessor and Internal Quality Assessor (IQA). with extensive experience across the construction, transportation, and utilities sectors. With over five years dedicated to health and safety training and more than 20 years as a modern foreign language teacher, I bring a unique blend of expertise in education, communication, and safety compliance.

Throughout my career, I have developed and delivered comprehensive health and safety programs, coached teams, and worked across multiple sites to improve safety standards. This experience has enabled me to design training programs that not only meet regulatory requirements but also align with the unique needs of different teams, ultimately enhancing safety outcomes on projects.

Fluent in five languages, I am able to communicate effectively with teams from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. My multilingual skills helped me ensure clear communication with my students and operatives, fostering a safety-first culture where all employees, regardless of their native language, fully understood health and safety protocols.

Outside of work, I find joy in traveling and painting. Traveling gives me the opportunity to immerse myself in nature, stay active, and experience new perspectives, while painting provides a tranquil and creative escape that allows me to express myself.
